Six Additional Judges of the Bombay High Court on Thursday (September 18) were sworn-in as Permanent Judges after the Central Government approved their appointments last week. 

Justices Sanjay Deshmukh, Vrushali Jadhav, Abhay Mantri, Shyam Chandak, Neeraj Dhote and Somasekhar Sundaresan were administered oath of the office.

Presently, Justices Chandak and Sundaresan are sitting at the principal seat, while Justices Deshmukh, Mantri and Dhote are posted at Aurangabad Bench. Justice Jadhav sits at the Nagpur seat.

Notably, Justices Deshmukh and Jadhav were initially appointed as additional judges and assumed office on October 7, 2022, while Justices Mantri, Chandak and Dhote assumed office on October 10, 2023. Justice Sundaresan took charge of his office from November 28, 2023.

With their appointments being made permanent, Justice Deshmukh is likely to get a an additional term of two years, Justice Mantri will serve for six more years and Justices Chandak and Dhote will get a term of five years.

Justice Sundaresan will be serving for more seven years.

It would not be out of place to mention that except Justice Sundaresan all the other five judges were judicial officers.
