The Calcutta High Court has ordered the Kolkata police to identify those who had allegedly heckled certain lawyers including Senior Advocate Bikash Ranjan Bhattacharya, on the High Court premises, as well as made insulting remarks towards Justice Biswajit Basu.
A division bench of Chief Justice TS Sivagnanam and Justice C. Chatterjee (Das) was approached by a group of lawyers who expressed apprehension over the event which occurred on the High Court premises and requested the registration of their pleas against the occurrence.
The bench was informed that the incident was caused by certain litigants who were unhappy with the proceedings before Justice Basu's court in a matter related to the 2016 SSC exams.
"They can always file an appeal...protests cannot be held in this manner...identify those involved," the Chief Justice remarked.
Notices were issued to the Advocate General and Additional Solicitor General, and the bench directed for the pleas to be placed before the Chief Justice on the administrative side for necessary orders.
