The Punjab Government has officially conferred the rank of Cabinet Minister upon Advocate General Maninderjit Singh Bedi, with Chief Minister's approval. The decision, formalised through a government notification dated May 15, 2025, outlines the terms and conditions of his appointment and associated entitlements.
According to the notification issued by the Department of Justice, Mr. Bedi will receive a fixed retainership fee of Rs. 2,50,000 per month, in addition to House Rent Allowance (HRA) of Rs. 35,000, equating his benefits with those of a Cabinet Minister.
Maninderjit Singh Bedi, the newly appointed Advocate General of Punjab, hails from Phul Town in Bathinda district. A law graduate from Punjabi University, Patiala (Class of 2005), Bedi began his legal career under the mentorship of his paternal uncle while practicing at Rampura Phul.
In 2009, he shifted his practice to Chandigarh and handled a wide range of cases including constitutional, civil, criminal, service, revenue, and corporate matters. Over the years, Bedi has served as panel counsel for several key state bodies, including PSPCL, PTU, ULBs, and PUNGRAIN.
Notably, he held the post of Additional Advocate General, Punjab, from July 2023 to March 2025, during which he represented the state in the High Court and the Supreme Court.
