The Supreme Court has issued a circular directing all building users to refrain from chewing pan masala, gutka, tobacco and similar substances and from spitting the residue within the court premises.

The circular, dated February 11, 2026, has been issued by the Administrative General Branch of the Court. It notes that it has been observed that some building users are in the habit of chewing pan masala, gutka and tobacco and spitting the residue in wall corners, washbasins and drinking water facilities.

According to the circular, such conduct results in water blockage and poses a risk of infections, apart from causing inconvenience to other users of the building. The Court has therefore “impressed upon all concerned” not to engage in spitting of pan masala, gutka or tobacco in the premises and to cooperate in maintaining cleanliness.

The circular has been issued under the signature of the Assistant Registrar (AG) and has been marked to “All Concerned”.

The direction comes as part of administrative measures aimed at ensuring hygiene and upkeep within the Supreme Court complex.
