In a relief to Bollywood actor Salman Khan, the Rajasthan High Court, on Monday, stayed the police investigation against him for allegedly making casteist remarks during the promotion of his movie, Tiger Zinda Hai.

During the hearing, it was submitted that the "ingredients of the offences alleged are not made out" against Mr. Khan. Opining that the matter "requires consideration", Justice Sandeep Mehta then issued notice to the respondents and stayed the proceedings in furtherance of the FIR filed at Churu, Rajasthan.

During an interview, while promoting his film, Mr. Khan had used the word 'bhangi' to refer to his own dancing style. This did not go down well with the Valmiki community, and an FIR was lodged with Churu police.

Mr. Khan was then directed to appear before the Deputy Superintendent of Police rank officer, with offences registered under provisions of the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989 and Section 153-A (disturbing communal harmony between two communities) of the Indian Penal Code.
