After the erstwhile royal family questioned his report on Sree Padmanabha Swamy temple in the Supreme Court, Amicus Curiae Gopal Subramaniam pleaded to be relieved as amicus. However, the bench of Justices T S Thakur and A R Dave turned down his plea and said, "Having done so much on the issue, we want and request you to be here,"

Senior K.K Venugopal and Harish Salve appeared for the erstwhile royal family and labelled allegations against Mr. Subramaniam that he exceeded his authority as an amicus and that he even interfered with the rituals of the temple.

Meanwhile, the Apex Court asked all the parties to arrive at a consensus to follow the 129 recommendations made in report submitted by Gopal Subramaniam. His report had stated that there was a requirement for an independent administration of the temple so authorities can complete their capacities openly and fearlessly.

Supreme Court in April had asked former CAG Vinod Rai to oversee special audit of property of the temple and had set up a new administrative committee headed by the District Judge, Thiruvananthapuram.
