The vacation bench of the Supreme Court on Thursday declined to grant urgent hearing for a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) petition which sought postponement of Indian Premier League matches in view of the spread of Cornavirus disease (COVID-19).
The matter was mentioned for urgent hearing by an advocate before a bench comprising Justices U U Lalit and Aniruddha Bose.
The petitioner submitted that more than 30,000 people are expected to arrive at the stadiums for each IPL matches, and that would lead to spread of the disease due to lack of proper precautionary measures.
The bench however observed that the matter was not required to be taken up today, and said that the same will be considered along with regular matters after the Court re-opens on March 16 after Holi vacations.
The 2-month long IPL season is set to start from March 29.
