Sessions Judge Satish Arora of Patiala House Courts, Delhi has issued a fresh death warrant for the execution of the four convicts in the Nirbhaya rape case.
The new date set for the execution is February 1, 6 in the morning.
On January 7, the Court had issued warrant for execution on January 22. This has been changed in view of the rejection of Mukesh's mercy plea by the President today.
While moving an application for issuance for fresh death warrant, Public Prosecutor Irfan Ahmad informed the court today that President has rejected Mukesh's mercy plea.
He also submitted a document stating that Tihar authorities have intimated Mukesh about the fact that his mercy plea has been rejected.
In light of the said development, Advocate Vrinda Grover moved an application seeking directions to be given to the Tihar authorities for providing her with the documents she requires to further the post-mercy remedies of Mukesh.
In the last hearing, the court had directed the Tihar Authorities to submit a complete report regarding the steps taken by them under Rule 840, read along with Rule 863, of the Delhi Prison Rules, 2018.
As of date, the other three convicts: Akshay, Pawan and Vinay, have still not filed their mercy pleas.
Akhay and Pawan have also not moved their curative petitions as of yet.
As per the Delhi Prison Manual, all the convicts, against whom the same death warrant is issued, shall be executed together.
